sol at restaurant calla is undeniable

I really love the direction SWLA is going. It's one thing to experience a place that doesn't feel like Lake Charles. It's another to offer a complete experience that is undeniably unique with that southern touch. As soon as I walk in, I'm hit with this laid back, chic and classy vibe. I look to the left and see the bar, I'm in love.

I'm really having a hard time deciding the best thing about restaurant calla. Bartenders, drinks, food, atmosphere? Jeez. Literally everything is great about this place. Let's dive into the menu (that frequently changes) first.

May be a little more pricey that what we are used to in SWLA, but I promise it is worth every penny. So, my first visit with a friend we decide to try the Bone marrow, herb salad, red onion jam, toast (because when was the last time you've eaten that?and Wild Boar Ribs. The ribs were so tender, slightly crispy in the fatty areas, and perfectly grilled. The bone marrow (for me), let's just say it wasn't as bad as I initially imagined. The best part was the shot of whiskey the bartenders pour down the bone!

Second trip we decided to try the Blue Crab beignets, General Jessica's Chicken, and Carrot cake, sweet pea ice cream. Let's just say when we got down to the last crab beignet, we were both side-eyeing each other. I really did not want to split that last ball, it was THAT good! Paired with the avocado sauce, mint leaves, and almonds, those little suckers had me near tears. I never knew something could be so delicious!

Speaking of bartenders, did I mention how AMAZING they are? I'm not typically a Gin & Tonic type, but restaurant calla has introduced me to a new side of myself. That drink had now become a craft in my eyes. Yes, craft. The bartenders know their sh*t, like a science. I don't want to go into the chemical processes of the different whiskeys and gins, but I have to iterate how legit it is. The beauty of this place is how fresh all of their ingredients are. I've grown to really appreciate the craft of an AMAZING drink and good, quality food.

Restaurant calla has truly added little spice to my life, taking me out of my own comfort zone. As you can see, we LOVE restaurant calla.

with love, kp.
